Sensitive information, in ordinary language

People use the phrase for health data, for secrets, and for things they would not say out loud.

“Sensitive” is doing several jobs in normal speech. Sometimes it means a special kind of personal data: health, biometrics, beliefs, sex life. Sometimes it means a secret: a password, a card number, an unreleased number. Sometimes it just means “I would lower my voice.”

All three are reasons to pause. They are not the same test.

A prompt can be sensitive with no identifier

“We’re about to let two people go in the Berlin office and I need a kinder script” may contain no email address. It is still a personnel matter. A tool that searches for emails will not save you from that sentence. Removing the city and the headcount, or not asking in a personal chat at all, is the actual decision.

And a secret can be sensitive without being about a person

An API key, a login link with a token in it, or a card number is sensitive because someone can use it. Vipra does look for common shapes of those, along with everyday personal details, and it can swap a finding for a token before you send. It still will not understand a paragraph that is sensitive only because of what it means.

If you would not want it forwarded, do not treat a clean review panel as permission. “You’re clear” means none of the known types are left in the field. It does not mean the thought is public.
